Human-Elephant cohabitation

26.06.2017: A brand new El@out

A tripartite agreement has been signed the 4th of June between “La Fruitière Numérique” from Lourmarin, the research unit B.S.E.F. from CIRAD and “CVT Valorisation Sud”.

This agreement intervenes in the context of the development of the automation of the chili propeller EL@OUT which has been originally designed by the two masterminds that are Sebastien Le Bel (Cirad's researcher) and Mike La Grange from Zimbabwe.

CVT Valorisation Sud supports this original project that is meant to reduce human-wild fauna conflicts, mainly issued with Elephant (in Africa, India, Sri-lanka,…).

This partnership with “Fruitière Numérique” is a significative statement for CIRAD and CVT. This Fablab, settled down in the village of Lourmarin is a tremendous innovative and creative space, open to everyone.

EL@OUT is a ping pong propeller that spread chili's oil after the impact on the Elephant's skin. Perfectly suitable for the common use, it's a simple and an easy-to-use system.

EL@OUT is in a perspective of frugal innovation: designed to be inventive and inexpensive. The prototype under development will consist of local and recyclable materials, which can be repaired locally.
